Don’t be wuss says Lonard…idiot
Australian champion Peter Lonard seems to be worried that new golf pros coming through the ranks in Australia are becoming “wussy” and reliant on sports shrinks, yoga instructors and gurus of all kinds.
He’s currently in Queensland gearing up for the Australian PGA which he hopes to win for the fourth time. With the tournament to tee off on Thursday, he’s found time to seek out a journalist and complain that golfers are just copying the field of top-tier golfers.
“With all those people helping, you don’t want to make players wussy. They’ve got to be tough and do it themselves,” said the seasoned pro “Obviously, it’s a fine line. Some guys improve with help. Others get worse because of too much input and too much rubbish to worry about which doesn’t have a whole lot to do with playing golf.”
It does make you think though. What’s his problem with it all? He said it himself, “don’t follow the top tier golfers” I mean, why wouldn’t you follow the top tier golfers. If it’s working for them then why not give it a go? It doesn’t make you a wuss but open minded in my opinion.
The comment has come from a guy that has won 9 times in Australia and only once in the US. He was in the top 50 in 2005 and has never won in Europe. I wonder how well he’d have done if he had a golf shrink or cared more about his fitness levels? Maybe world number one but Lonard will never know because he didn’t try these new ideas.
This is the same old tripe from a generation gone by that is closed to new ideas and forward thinking which bugs me to be honest. He’s entitled to his opinion of course but why did he feel the need to share it with the world? He may as well start pounding his chest and shouting “ugg, I’m a real man…ugg” like the neanderthal he seems to be.
It really annoys me that as a male, you’re deemed to be “a big wuss” if you decide to look after yourself a bit or god forbid, accept some help from a professional. It goes along with the whole macho-male thinking which holds things back in my opinion.
So “man-up” yourself Lenord and open your mind to new things or you’ll get left behind with the Neanderthals.
