Consistently missing putts? Tip 1
January 9th, 2009
If you’re consistently hitting your putts off line then you’re probably setting up wrong which is a really easy thing to fix, try this series of tips and you’ll be putting straight in no time!
Tip 1
Not setting yourself up properly is one of the most likely things to cause duff putts. Check that you’re doing it right. As you stand over the over the ball at address you should line up with your left eye directly over the top of the golf ball.
You can check this easily by setting up as above, then hold a golf ball up by your left eye and drop it. If you are lined up correctly, the ball should land directly on top of the ball on the floor, if not then you need to make an adjustment. You see, if your eyes are inside or outside the target line, it can cause you to regularly hit it off line as your perception is skewed.
But why the left eye? Well, if you line up with the ball under your left eye, you will be stood very slightly to the right which means that when you swing at the ball, you will hit it on the upstroke which removes backspin. This will help you to gauge how hard to hit the ball and create better consistency in your putting. It will also stop you hitting the ground before the ball - another common problem.
